Psalms 4, Week 4:

Scripture: Psalm 4

Preaching Pastor: John Nicholas

Sermon Title: The Believer’s Assurance

Main Idea: Assurance is found in trusting the Lord

We know that the blessed man is deeply nourished by the Word.  This week we see that man’s blessings in confidence.

Psalm 4:6/7

There are many who say, “Who will show us some good? 11Lift up 12the light of your face upon us, O LORD!”

You have put 13more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound.

Where does our satisfaction come from? Do we place the object of our happiness in places where moth and rust destroy, or are we mindful of the right place of God? Is God the treasure and sustainer of our lives? Could we be as happy with position, money, and things as we are with God?

Application:

What we will find in Psalm 4 is that because God preserves those He saves we can have assurance of our salvation.  We can have the confidence in God that David has.

This assurance will be found in our continual sanctification.

Go Do:

As we prepare to worship Sunday, as you reflect on our study and prepare for future studies (Psalm 3 and beyond), reflect on your passion for the Word.

Ask yourself:

  • How can I find:
    • Service to the Lord in Fear
    • Rejoice, and
    • Trembling

How can we have a healthy worshipful fear of God?
